About this exhibition, Shannon Morris, Gallery Director, stated, “I am excited to bring together the visual textures created by Manty Dey’s floral abstractions with the “Invented Hybrids”, a series featuring drawings and sculptural forms by Heather Deyling. The work is beautiful, it is playful and it really makes us think about the wonder of the world we inhabit.”

Her awarded residencies include Vermont Studio Center and the Hambidge Center.  In recent paintings, Dey continues her exploration of botanical abstractions on canvas. Using floral motifs as an anchor to form the image, she investigates the intricate relationships between light, color, shadow, and organic shapes that undulate across the surface. She moves slowly between playful abstraction, relying on collected imagery and visual memory to find ways to disorient the viewer deeper into the lushness of the painting. Each layer unveils traces of intentional and improvised gestures as they accumulate and dissolve over time and temperament
