This past month, we celebrated a big milestone here at Spruill: the official opening of our brand new Spruill Studios facility! On Saturday, June 13, we gathered together outside the newly renovated building to cut the ribbon.
Thanks to the 90 degree temperatures, the outdoor ribbon cutting itself was short and sweet (and very, very sweaty).

Nevertheless, the morning was an enjoyable one, spent showing our guests around the building (which, fun fact, is actually the former Chamblee City Hall!).
The lobby now functions as a mini gallery space (open to the public!) to showcase works created by the facility’s artists. Currently on view in this gallery space as part of its inaugural exhibition are works by 10 of our new Spruill Studios artists. Going forward, we’re hoping to rotate the works on view roughly every six weeks, with exhibitions showcasing only a few artists at a time.
This gallery space is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 AM – 5 PM. If you stop by to visit, we’d recommend making an afternoon of it! Downtown Chamblee is full of cute restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance from our new studio space. (Our CEO Alan recommends SideCar Coffee, Stellow, and Kin Coffee Company).
In the space that used to host city employee offices and cubicles are now 15 individual artist studios, ranging in size from 104.5 to 198 square feet. Currently, our artists are all in various stages of moving into their spaces — some have set up only an easel and paintbrushes while others have decorated with colorful rugs, comfy seating, potted plants, and more. We’ve really been enjoying watching our artists make their spaces their own, and a few have even documented their move-in days on social media (check out posts by Jermery, Allison, and Reinilda). Our artists also have access to their very own break room, complete with a microwave, refrigerator, and sinks.
If you’re interested in getting a behind-the-scenes look into some of the studios, be on the lookout for designated “open studio” events, where our artists will open their studio doors and show their space off to visitors!
The artists themselves are a wonderful bunch who represent a talented and diverse selection of Atlanta art talent — from painters to potters to printmakers and beyond. We’re especially excited that two of the members of this first cohort, Jermery Hall and Jay Reddish, are Spruill instructors!

This exhibition will showcase works by all 16 Spruill Studios artists. And, stop by the closing reception on July 31 (6-9 PM) for a chance to meet some of the artists.
As we embark on this new chapter for Spruill, we’d like to thank everyone who supported and worked on this project! We couldn’t be more excited about the role Spruill Studios will play in the community, offering accessible and affordable creative space to artists while providing a new opportunity for arts appreciation.
