Recognized for his signature miniature teapots, Fong will explore and
demonstrate in detail the teapot form from the perspective of
proportions: from the large to the small and from the whimsical to the
utilitarian. Through the creation of the teapot form, participants will
inevitably recognize the skills required in handling clay, acquire a
better sense of craftsmanship, and without doubt exercise better visual
creative skills by virtue of the form.
There will be discussions about his glaze techniques to achieve his
jewel tone effects by combining commercial glazes with found and tweaked
recipes. There will also be demonstrations on tool and cane handle
making, networking, pricing and presentational aspects of ceramics.
Visual presentations of Fong’s work will be presented with both slides
and actual work and he has invited all participants to bring samples of
their own work to discuss.
This workshop is designed for all levels of ceramic experience.
